So why do I write? Why has it been an obsession since I first held a pen in my hand? I don’t feel qualified to answer those questions. I describe writing as the ultimate, absolute freedom. It is eighty percent perspiration, fifteen percent inspiration, and I have no idea what the other five percent is. I cannot remember a time when I did not write, and I do not want to imagine a time when I cannot write. To quote my own words, “he had so much to write, because he had said so little.” In pursuit of an understanding of this thing, I am currently completing an MA in Creative Writing at Dublin City University.
